To Sir, with Love
To Sir, With Love
As a first timer at one of ETASHAs Certification ceremonies, I did not really know what to expect from the students of the several batches who were receiving their certificates on that Saturday in Madanpur Khadar.
It was overwhelming to see the manner in which all the students presented their speeches and interacted with the faculty. The confidence, the pride and the happiness was evident on their faces. From being uncomfortable with the English language to gaining the courage and ability to speak in public about their experience at ETASHA and their plans for the future, the transformation was commendable.
ETASHA has truly inspired these teenagers to do something that will increase their chances for a brighter future. It has given them hope that dreams will come true and faith that they are capable of being who they want to be.
Shikha Bindal, is one such student, who not only gave the customary speech before receiving her certificate, but also wrote a poem about Ian McBride, one of the faculty members who taught her batch. Such was the impact of Ian and his teaching methodology, on Shikha and her classmates! Hearing a poem written by someone, who till three months ago would not even have dreamt of writing something in English and reciting it in public, was heart warming. It makes one feel very strongly about the power of the right kind of education and the right kind of opportunities.
The poem is as follows (I’m sure you will all appreciate the effort and hope that this poem reflects)
For Ian Sir,
I’m happy that you’re my teacher
I enjoy each lesson you teach
As my role model you inspire me
To dream and to work and to reach
With your kindness you get my attention
Every day you are planting a seed
of curiosity and motivation
To know and to grow and succeed
You help me fulfill my potential
I’m thankful for all that you’ve done
I admire you each day, and I just want to say
As a teacher you’re number one
