Empowering Youth: Reflections of Shreya’s Internship at ETASHA Society

As I reflect on my internship experience at ETASHA Society, I am filled with a profound sense of purpose and inspiration. ETASHA, short for Enabling and Training Adolescents for a Successful and Healthy Adulthood, is a non-governmental organization dedicated to providing job-linked training and placement opportunities to youth from low-resource communities. Founded in 2006 by Dr. Meenakshi Nayar, ETASHA aims to unleash the immense potential of underprivileged youth by equipping them with the necessary skills to thrive in the modern workforce.

During my time at ETASHA, I had the privilege of observing classes designed to empower these young individuals. These classes were not just about imparting technical skills; they were about nurturing holistic growth and development. From retail to hospitality to telecom, ETASHA offers training programs tailored to various sectors, ensuring that each student receives education and guidance relevant to their interests and aspirations.

What struck me the most about ETASHA’s approach is its emphasis on addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by the students. It’s not just about teaching them how to perform specific tasks; it’s about instilling confidence, fostering resilience, and nurturing a sense of self-worth. Dr. Nayar’s vision, born out of a career guidance workshop in a resettlement colony in Delhi, recognizes that these young people possess immense potential, but they often lack the opportunities and resources to fulfil it.

My heart swells with a profound sense of fulfilment and gratitude. Witnessing individuals from underprivileged backgrounds being granted opportunities for growth and advancement fills me with immense joy and hope. One of the most rewarding aspects of my internship was witnessing the transformation that took place in the students. I saw shy, reserved individuals blossom into confident, self-assured professionals ready to take on the world. It was a testament to the power of education, mentorship, and opportunity in unlocking human potential and breaking the cycle of poverty and inequality. Seeing their resilience and determination in the face of adversity serves as a powerful reminder of the human spirit’s capacity to overcome challenges and thrive. It’s moments like these that remind me of the importance of compassion, empathy, and solidarity in building a more inclusive and equitable society.

Being a part of ETASHA was more than just an internship; it was a profound and deeply meaningful experience that left a lasting impact on me. It reminded me of the immense privilege I have had in my own education and upbringing and the responsibility that comes with it. It reinforced my belief in the transformative power of education and the importance of providing equal opportunities to all members of society, regardless of their background or circumstances.

As I move forward in my own journey, I carry with me the lessons and insights gained from my time at ETASHA. I am inspired to continue working towards creating a more equitable and inclusive society where every individual has the opportunity to fulfil their potential and lead a fulfilling life. ETASHA may be just one organization, but its impact reaches far beyond its walls, touching the lives of countless individuals and communities across the country.
